Centurion Word 2: King

A reflection on the distinct responsibilities of kings and priests, and how they can cooperate in Christian communities.

Centurion Word 2: King

There is a difference between a King and a Priest.

A king is called to lead, grow, protect, plan, defend, and take responsibility for the people he leads.

A priest is called to worship, show mercy, enjoy no inheritance, and point the people to God.

Not all people are either king or priest: most are neither. Most are just “the people.”

Our focus is on the role of king, which is usually similar to the centurion’s calling in our world.

We think kings and priests can cooperate better than they do in much of the Christian world today.
